Styling Node Types: Shapes, Colors & Borders

Every Node Type has visual settings that apply to all its instances on the canvas. Select the Node Type in the Model Navigator and adjust these in the Properties panel.

Color

Use the Color swatches to set the fill, or click Custom to enter any hex color. A consistent color per type makes diagrams easy to scan at a glance.

Shape

The Shape dropdown offers four shapes:

Rounded Rectangle (the default)
Rectangle
Octagon
Ellipse

Borders

Border Style — choose None, Solid, Dashed, or Dotted.
Border Color — pick a swatch or a Custom hex color.

A dashed border is a quick way to signal a different status (e.g. "planned" vs. "existing") without changing the fill color.

Labels on the canvas

Show Type Label — show or hide the type's name on each node.
Show Node Label — show or hide each node's own name.

Hiding labels is useful for dense diagrams or icon-style nodes.

Tip

Group related types into one color family (different shades of the same hue per domain) so a large model stays readable as it grows.
