Using Sticky Notes and Diagram Links

How to add sticky notes for annotations and diagram links for navigation between diagrams on the canvas.

Sticky notes and diagram links are canvas decorations that help you annotate and navigate your diagrams.

Sticky Notes

Sticky notes are free-text annotations on the canvas — not part of the model data.

Adding a Sticky Note:

1. Right-click on an empty area of the Canvas
2. Select Add Sticky Note from the context menu
3. A yellow note appears on the canvas
4. Click to type your text
5. Drag to reposition

Editing, copying and deleting:

• Double-click a note to edit it. ⌘/Ctrl+Enter saves (plain Enter starts a new line), Esc cancels.
• Copy a note with ⌘/Ctrl+C (or right-click → Copy). Paste with ⌘/Ctrl+V on any diagram of the same model: the copy lands at the mouse pointer, with the same text, size, style and layer.
• Notes can be part of a multi-selection (Shift+click or Shift+drag). Pressing Delete removes them together with the other selected elements, after a confirmation, as one undo step.
• Annotation connectors attached to a deleted note are removed with it.

Use cases:

• Annotate areas of the diagram ("This section needs review")
• Add explanations for complex relationship patterns
• Leave notes for collaborators
• Mark areas as work-in-progress

Diagram Links

Diagram links let you navigate from one diagram to another — like hyperlinks between views.

Adding a Diagram Link:

1. In the Model Navigator, find the diagram or relationship grid you want to link to
2. Drag it onto the canvas of the current diagram
3. A card appears showing the target's name and an icon for its kind (diagram, relationship grid or property table)
4. In the editor, double-click the card, or right-click → Open Target Diagram, to go there

For readers: in the Reader, a diagram-link card works like a link: one click opens the target diagram, grid or dashboard. On a published site the cards are shown but don't navigate, since published pages are organised by the site's own navigation.

Use cases:

• Create overview diagrams that link to detailed sub-diagrams
• Build a navigation structure for complex models
• Cross-reference related views

Tips

• Sticky notes and diagram links are per-diagram — they belong to the diagram, not the model
• Use consistent colors or positioning conventions across your diagrams
• Diagram links make large models much more navigable
