Creating Nodes (Instances)

Once you've defined Node Types in your metamodel, you can create instances (nodes).

Method 1: Drag from Toolbox (Most Common)

  1. Open a diagram on the canvas
  2. Find the Node Type in the Toolbox (left panel)
  3. Click and drag the type onto the canvas
  4. A new node is created and placed on the diagram
  5. The node gets a default label — click to edit it
  6. Fill in properties in the Properties Panel

Method 2: From the Tree View

  1. In the Tree View, find the Nodes section
  2. Click the + button
  3. Select which Node Type to create
  4. The node is created in the model (but not yet on any diagram)
  5. To add it to a diagram, drag it from the Tree View onto the canvas

Editing Node Properties

  1. Select the node (click on it on the canvas or in the Tree View)
  2. The Properties Panel shows all properties defined by its Node Type
  3. Fill in values — they save automatically
  4. You can also edit the node's label and description

Tips

  • Nodes created via the Toolbox are automatically placed on the current diagram
  • A node can appear on multiple diagrams
  • Use meaningful labels — they're what you see on the canvas and in the Tree View
